About This Course

Ideal For

This course is designed for students aged 16+ with prior music production or composition experience who want to advance their skills in game audio, interactive music, and professional music production workflows. Familiarity with a DAW and basic music theory or MIDI programming is strongly recommended.

Prerequisites

Experience using Midi for music composition or owning a commercial sample libraries although not a requirement, is highly beneficial.  

Bring With You

  • Your own laptop (PC or Mac) with minimum 11GB free hard drive space
  • Bring your own headphones: they’re a must have!  
  • Have your own DAW: Protools, Reaper, Logic X, Cubebase etc…

Advanced Composition & Game Music Foundations

  • Explore how music shapes emotion, gameplay, and storytelling
  • Introduction to adaptive music in video games
  • Learn basic DAW, MIDI, and sound engine concepts

weeks 3-4

Mixing, Production & Audio Delivery

  • Advanced mixing, mastering, and post-production techniques
  • Sound design, FX processing, automation, and dynamic control workflows
  • Professional cue creation, editing, file management, and final delivery practices

weeks 5-6

Interactive Music Systems (Wwise + Unreal Engine 5)

  • Build adaptive music systems using Wwise middleware and Unreal Engine 5
  • Design transitions, layering, states, switches, and real-time parameter control
  • Generate soundbanks and test interactive systems in engine environments

weeks 7-8

Implementation, Iteration & Final Project

  • Implement and refine interactive music systems using Unreal Engine 5
  • Use visual scripting, debugging, and profiling to enhance system performance
  • Deliver a fully interactive music system integrated into a playable environment

Game & Film Scoring Instructor

Johnny Lucas is a professional composer and AAA game audio designer with over 25 years of experience as a musician and nearly a decade at Ubisoft Toronto. He specializes in helping students turn their passion for music into immersive, interactive video game soundtracks using real-world industry tools and techniques.

Having contributed to major titles like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Watch Dogs: Legion, The Division, Splinter Cell, and the Far Cry series, Johnny brings firsthand game development experience into every lesson. His teaching covers composition, production, orchestration, mixing, and even in-game implementation, all in a fun, hands-on environment.

Johnny will help students unlock their full create potential, enabling them to make professional-quality music inspired by today’s blockbuster video games.
