About This Course

This advanced music production course is designed for students ready to go beyond the basics and start creating fully realized tracks. Over 8 weeks, students will build beats, record vocals, shape their sound, and develop a more intentional approach to production. With a focus on workflow, creativity, and decision-making, they’ll learn how to take an idea and turn it into a finished piece of music.

Ideal For

Students who already have some experience with music production or recording and want to take more ownership over their sound. Ideal for those interested in beatmaking, songwriting, and producing across genres like hip-hop, R&B, pop, and electronic.

Our Advanced Music Production fall program officially begins September 8, but enrolment remains open throughout the term. Join an existing group or reach out to find the best option for you.

Prerequisites

Completion of a beginner/intermediate production course or a basic understanding of recording, DAWs, and song structure. Students should be comfortable navigating simple sessions and ready to build on that foundation.

Bring With You

• Over-ear headphones (recommended)
• A laptop with a DAW for at-home work
• A notebook or phone for ideas, notes, and references
• Any song ideas, beats, or projects you want to develop

What You'll Learn

Building Strong Foundations

Record clean vocals and sounds with proper technique
Understand how sound flows through a session
Start developing ideas from simple recordings

weeks 3-4

From Ideas to Beats

Build drum patterns and melodic loops
Arrange sections (intro, verse, chorus)
Turn rough ideas into structured tracks

weeks 5-6

Shaping Your Sound

Balance and clean up your mix using volume and EQ
Use compression and effects to enhance emotion
Create space and depth within your track

04

weeks 7-8

Final Track Development

Develop and refine a full track or project
Make creative decisions with intention
Finalize and export a polished piece of music
